Indo-Canadian man poses as Uber driver to sexually assault woman

VANCOUVER: Indo-Canadian man Hirdeypal Batth, 24, who has been charged with sexually assaulting and forcibly confining a woman in August, may have targeted more women, says the Vancouver Police Department (VPD).

Posing as a Uber driver with his white 2020 Land Rover,  Hirdeypal Batth forcibly confined his victim and sexually assaulted her on August 26 near Oak Street and King Edward Avenue in the city.

VPD Constable Tania Visintin said, “We believe that Batth may have targeted other victims. Investigators are expanding their focus to look at crimes that occurred outside of Vancouver and are urging any other victims to please come forward.”

 A resident of Langley, Batth was convicted of similarly sexually assaulting a victim In 2017.

The Indo-Canadian man remains in custody until his next court appearance.
