NEW DELHI: President Donald Trump’s ‘filthy air’ remark about India during the last presidential debate with Joe Biden on Thursday night has riled many.

Opposing Biden’s plans on carbon emission and explaining why he pulled out of the Paris Climate accord, President Trump said, “Look at China. How filthy it is. Look at Russia. Look at India, it’s filthy. The air is filthy.”

Trump said under him the US was reporting the lowest carbon emissions in 35 years.

No one knows how Trump’s `dirty’ remark about India will play out with the huge Indian diaspora, but some Indian politicians are riled by the comment.

Taking indirect aim at Modi who held a ‘Howdy Modi’ rally with Trump in Houston last year and hosted the US President in India in February this year, Congress leader Kapil Sibal tweeted, “Trump: Fruits of Friendship 1) Questions India’s Covid death toll 2) Says India sends dirt up into the air India “ air is filthy “ 3) Called India “ tariff king “ The result of “Howdy Modi .”
