MUMBAI: Though Priyanka Chopra, 36, and Nick Jonas, 25, got engaged in London in July on her birthday, the two went through Hindu rituals of engagement or roka in Mumbai on August 17 to officially confirm that they are engaged.
Nick Jonas and his parents Paul Kevin Jonas and mom Denise Miller-Jonas flew to Mumbai two days ago for the engagement ceremony at Priyanka’s Juhu residence which was all decked up for the big occasion.
Priyanka’s mother Madhu Chopra and brother Siddharth, family friends and many Bollywood celebrities joined the roka ceremony as did Bollywood super star Salman Khan’s sister Arpita Khan Sharma and her husband Aayush Sharma.
Industrialist Mukesh Ambani came with his wife and daughter.
Priyanka’s cousin Parineeti and friend Alia Bhat were among the actresses who were present at the roka ceremony
Taking to Instagram, Priyanka thanked everybody for their best wishes. “The only way to do this… with Family and God. Thank you all for your wishes and blessings.”
Sharing her picture with Priyanka, cousin Parineeti wrote, “Today I witnessed magic and a fairytale … When we were kids, mimi didi and I used to play “ghar ghar”. We would pretend to be shy brides, have imaginary children, and serve tea to our husbands! ?? cheesy, but its because we always believed in the magic of love and hoped we would both find that perfect man for us one day!! Today there was no pretending. I cant think of a more a perfect man for her. Like I said this morning, there are two ways of judging a human being. One – travel with them, and two, eat with them. Nick, I have done both with you. And so I know you’re perfect for her!! Love her, because she loves you like mad! Protect her, because shes strong, but a soft soul inside. Welcoming Priyanka into his family, Nick’s father wrote on Instagram, “So happy for the engagement of our son @nickjonas and we welcome @priyankachopra into our family with love and excitement.”
Nick’s brother Joe Jonas said, “I couldn’t be happier for my brother.”
