Alberta minister of service Manmeet Bhullar, who was instrumental in the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Alberta and Punjab during the visit of former Alberta premier Ed Stelmach to India in 2010, has now organized an agreement between Olds College, Alberta, and Punjab Agriculture University (PAU) in Ludhiana, India.
While PAU is India’s premier agricultural research institute which played a major role in ushering the Green Revolution in India in the 1960s, Olds College too is Alberta’s
premier comprehensive applied agricultural, horticultural, land and environmental management learning institution.
“I am proud that I was able to have the first-ever agreement between Alberta and Punjab signed. Proud (now) that I can help the Punjab Agriculture University collaborate with Alberta’s institutions,’’ Manmeet Bhullar said in a statement after the signing of the agreement.
The agreement was signed during the recent visit of Dr P.K. Khanna, advisor to the vice-chancellor of PAU, to Alberta.
Bhullar and Khanna discussed innovative ways of cooperation between Alberta and Punjab to widen educational and research partnerships.
“Educational partnerships spark important dialogue regarding research that is taking place in other parts of the world,’’ Bhullar said.
Dr Khanna, who toured the Olds College campus, discussed future joint initiatives with his counterparts.
Bhullar is the youngest MLA and minister in Alberta.
