Qatar Airways made history on Sunday when it operated the world’s longest passenger flight between Doha and Auckland.
The 14,539-kilometre non-flight took 17 hours and 55 minutes and landed at Auckland airport at 7.25am, making it the longest flight in terms of time.
But Air India operates the world’s longest flight in terms of distance. Its Flight AI173 covers 15,300 km from New Delhi to San Francisco.
Sunday’s flight by Qatar Airways using Boeing 777-200LR flies over Dubai, northern Oman, India, Sri Lanka and Australia before reaching New Zealand. Its economy class ticket costs $1,265 and business class costs $4,500.
