LONDON: A woman in Chile is crying tears of blood and doctors are clueless about its cause.
The 20-year-old woman named Yaritza Oliva started crying tears of blood earlier this month, according to a report in the Sun newspaper here.
Ever since, with no warning, the terrified 20-year-old woman bleeds from her eyes several times a day, the report says.
Oliva, who lives in Purranque city in Chile, first went to her doctor. But the doctor found no evidence of any infection and gave her eye drops to help her cope with the pain.
The young woman describes her pain `indescribable’ and her parents are now asking friends and neighbours to help them raise the money to send their daughter to an eye expert.
The woman is reportedly suffering from a very rare condition called haemolacria that causes sufferers to produce tears containing blood.
There are only three documented cases of the condition, which can be symptomatic of a more serious illness or a tumour – or caused by a high level of hormones in fertile women, the report said.
The woman’s father Jose went on a TV talk show and sought help from financial help people to get her treatment from eye experts.
“Please put your hands over your hearts, see our situation and help my daughter,’’ the father of the woman said, pleading for help.
