NEW DELHI: If the BJP comes to power after the current parliament elections, will it change the names of important places named after the members of the Nehru-Gandhi family? Will it change the name of Indira Gandhi International Airport?
The party has promised to review the names of various welfare schemes in India named after the Nehru-Gandhi family.
According to former BJP president M Venkaiah Naidu, more than “600 schemes” across the country have been named after Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi over the years.
Speaking at an election rally in Patna, he said the Congress has “glorified contributions of one family by giving it credit for everything taking place in the country before and after the Independence.’’
Over the year, he said, the Congress has launched 650 schemes after the names of Jawahar Lal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi.
If the BJP comes to power, he said, it would review the names of these schemes in the name of members of one family.
