BRAMPTON: Vishal G . Arora has been given the Long Term Service Award for 2012 by the City of Brampton for community and social work.
The award was conferred on him by Mayor Susan Fennell at the annual Citizen Awards Ceremony on Wednesday. Over 300 people attended the ceremony.
A multi-faceted man, Arora has been involved in the promotion of arts in Brampton as a Community Outreach and Business Advisor for the Academy of Cre8ive Arts which runs classes at their studios in Downtown Brampton’s Central Public School.
He also has organized and taken part in such programs as Speak Out!- an event that is designed for the youth, by the youth to educate them about the political process and why they should get involved in it.
As the Artistic Director for IIFA Buzz Brampton, he played a leading role in the events across the city leading up to the grand finale weekend in Downtown Brampton. And having played with the Brampton Minor Baseball Inc. (BMBI) and umpiring for 10 years, he has volunteered as a coach for them from the 2012 season.
Accepting the award, Arora said, “I truly feel honoured and I am so grateful to the Academy of Cre8ive Arts for nominating me and to the City of Brampton for presenting me with this award today. I would like to share this award with my guests that have accompanied me here tonight, my parents and grandparents, Manraj Saini, and my nominator Miss Sohni from the Academy of Cre8ive Arts, who all play the most important part in my achievements.”
Praising Arora, Vicky Dhillon, Councillor for Wards 9 and 10, City of Brampton, said, “It was a pleasure and pride for the community to honour Vishal and his community contributions. Congratulations Mr. Arora from the City of Brampton, we appreciate the great leadership you have shown in the community.”
The Citizen Award is one of the most prestigious award ceremonies in the City of Brampton, honouring outstanding citizens for their community work each year.
The evening featured performances by The Marc Joseph Band and Jade’s Hip Hop Academy. The Citizen of the Year award 2012 was presented to Dan Labrecque.
