LONDON: An 80-year Sikh man Joginder Singh from Canley in Coventry, who was punched to ground and kicked and spit upon by 19-year-old Coral Millerchip in August outside a city-centre, died on Sunday, police said on Thursday.
Millerchip was arrested after the attack on Singh went viral on social media. She admitted to assaulting the elderly man during her hearing last month.
But she could face more charges if it is proved that Singh’s death was linked to the attack. Detectives have informed the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) about Singh’s death as they await the autopsy report.
Singh was admitted to hospital after the attack and later released. But he was re-admitted to hospital with a diagnosed illness.
According to Chief Inspector Matt Markham of Coventry CID, “At this stage it is unclear if that (death) is directly connected with the assault.’’
He said, “Our thoughts remain with the family and those affected by Mr Singh’s death and we will continue to work with CPS and the coroner to establish the cause of death. Specialist family liaison police officers have been appointed to liaise with Mr Singh’s next of kin and we will continue to support the family at this sad time.’’
