MISSISSAUGA: If you are a foodie and like home-made food away from home, then nothing beats Tandoori Time on Burnhamthrope Road in Mississauga.
For me, Tandoori Time Mississauga is the go-to place this side of the GTA if I want the best Indian food.
What is so special about this place?
Well, first as mentioned above, the food tastes as if you have cooked it at home. Then they offer you the choices dishes at very competitive prices.
The name Tandoori Time says it all. Their best items are tandoori kebab and tandoori fish.
“Tandoori kebab is our most sought-after item…people are crazy about it,’’ says a woman at the cash counter who introduces herself as Navin Choudhary.
But for some other customers, the best item among the 60-plus on offer at Tandoori Time are karahi chicken and karahi lamb.
“Yes, I think the karahi chicken and karahi lamb here are unbeatable. And they come with complementary chutney. I just love it,’’ says Ambi Kalra who has been visiting Tandoori Time for almost a decade.
“I come here for their home-like quality of food. You cannot find any complaint with their menu. They give you consistently a very high quality food. You cannot cook food at home cheaper than this, and their service is instant. I am addicted to their food,’’ says Kalra who runs a designer garment company out of Mississauga.
“One thing more. Their chicken biryani is dynamite, and I often pack it from here for my friends in Kitchener whenever I go there. They just love it,’’ he says.
Ask any customer, and most of them say that they have been coming here regularly. “Apart from their tandoori items, their naans are out of the world, and nothing beats their desserts- such as gulab-jamun, ras-malai and Kashmiri chai,’’ says one.
It is a safe bet to assume that more than anything else, it is their competitive prices which have created a loyal clientele for Tandoori Time.
“Our franchiser has not changed the prices for more than a year now despite the rising costs, and the franchisees at the three outlets in the GTA cannot set their own prices. That’s our commitment to our customers,’’ says Choudhary.
But more than the prices, she says, people are drawn to Tandoori Time because of the quality of the food.
“Barring things which cannot be cooked in tandoor, every item is prepared in tandoor. And each item is prepared only after getting the order. Nothing sits stale even for a minute,’’ she says.
And the ambience inside Tandoori Time Mississauga matches the quality of food. Paintings of laid-back rural life in Punjab in the good old days stir nostalgia in you and take you back in time.
“Yes, I love their paintings showing women churning lassi, and they take me back in time to my roots in Punjab,’’ says Kalra, diehard fan of Tandoori Time Mississauga.
