MUMBAI: Actor Aditya Pancholi’s son Suraj Pancholi has been charged with abetting his girlfriend Jiah Khan’s suicide.
Jiha Khan was found dead in her Juhu apartment on June 3 last year.
The 415-page charge sheet filed by Juhu Police in the Andheri Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court says there was no evidence that showed that the actress was killed.
But Jiah Khan’s mother Rabia Khan has been insisting that her daughter did not commit suicide and that she was killed. However, the charge sheet says there is no evidence – either circumstantial or eyewitnesses’ accounts – to back her claim.
The charge-sheet carries statements from 36 witnesses in the case. The witnesses include Dr Prakash Pawar of Cooper Hospital who examined when Jiah Khan was brought to hospital and declared her dead.
The charge sheet confirms that the alleged suicide by Jiah Khan and a diary recovered from her room were in her handwriting.
According to the charge sheet, police are still awaiting a second opinion whether Jiah was drunk. The second opinion has been sought on the basis of the examination of her viscera.
A report on the chemical analysis of Suraj Pancholi’s blood is also awaited.
The charge sheet also carries details of calls and SMSes between Jiah and Suraj. The two had met through facebook.
The entry says that between June 2012 and June 2013, Suraj made 783 calls to Jiah Khan and she made 632 calls to him.
During this period, Jiah sent 341 SMSes to him and Suraj sent 219 to her.
Jiah’s mother had moved the Bombay High Court in October, alleging that she was murdered and submitted photos taken after her death to support her claim. She also claimed that human tissue on her daughter’s nails showed that she put up a fight before her death.
Rabia is still maintaining that her daughter was murdered and intends to challenge the charge sheet.
“Since the first day, the police have investigated the case from that angle and they have stuck to it. They don’t even respect court orders asking them investigate the case properly based on my last statement,’’ she was quoted as saying.
