NEW YORK: The Spice Girls have been offered £25 million to reunite and perform in Las Vegas on their 20th anniversary.
The massive payday has been offered by major casinos and hotels in the Sin City to the 1990s pop phenomenon if all the five members come together for a reunion on their 20th anniversary.
But there is a hitch. While Mel B, Mel C, Emma Bunton and Geri Halliwell are all ready, Victoria Bekcham is not.
According to the Daily Star Sunday, Mel B has managed to bring Mel C, Emma Bunton and Geri Halliwell on board, but Mrs Bekcham (formerly Posh Spice) is not budging.
The report says major resort chains in the Sin City are desperate to bring `Girl Power’ back following the hype surrounding Britney Spears’ gigs in Las Vegas.
“A Spice Girls reunion in Vegas could easily generate $100million worth of PR in a few weeks and earn the group £25million in the process,’’ the report adds.
“There’s huge interest from various major casinos and hotels so it’s just a case of whether the girls can persuade Victoria to change her mind on the project.
“Posh is more than happy for the four girls to do it without her but the problem is the offer is only on the table for all five of them.’’
The all-time great female group in music history, the Spice Girls came into being in 1994.
Their first single `Wannabe’ by Virgin 1996 established them as the new pop phenomenon. The single was NO 1 in more than 30 countries. Their first album `Spice’ in 1996 became the all-time best seller by a female group in music history.
The most popular music group to emerge from Britain after the Beatles, the Spice Girls defined new `Girl Power’ and became the most popular cultural icons of the age.
But in 1998, differences emerged in the band and Geri Halliwell announced to leave it.
The group reunited briefly in 2007-2008.
The last time all the five performed was at the closing ceremony of the London Olympics in August 2012 and for the premiere of Viva Forever: The Musical in London in December 2012.
