NEW DELHI: Most powerful Indian woman and Congress president Sonia Gandhi, once described as the 12th richest politician of the world by the Huffington Post with her personal worth of about $2 billion, is actually worth only about Rs 9.28 crore.
In her affidavit filed with her nomination papers from the Rae Bareli Lok Sabha constituency on Wednesday, Sonia says she has no person vehicle.
During the last elections in 2009, she had shown her total assets to be worth Rs 1.37 crore. It means that her assets have seen six times growth in the past five years.
As an MP and UPA chairperson, Sonia has shown an income of over Rs 14.21 lakh for 2013-13.
The most powerful woman in India has also listed ornaments worth over Rs 62 lakh.
The affidavit also mentions her loan of Rs nine lakh to her son Rahul Gandhi.
The Congress president says she has movable assets worth Rs 2.81 crore and immovable assets worth Rs 6.47 crore.
Her movable assets include Rs 66 lakh in banks and Rs 85,000 in cash. Sonia has mutual funds worth Rs 82.20 lakh, bonds worth Rs 10 lakh in bonds and shares worth Rs 1.90, PPF worth Rs 42.49 lakh, National Saving Scheme investment worth Rs 2.86 lakh.
In the immovable assets, Sonia has listed her ancestral property in Italy worth Rs 19.90 lakh. And she has two pieces of land in India – one worth Rs 4.86 crore at Deramandi village and another worth Rs 1.40 crore at Sultanpur village.
