MUMBAI: Sanjay Dutt’s lawyer Rizwan Merchant, who met him in Arthur Road Jail for three hours on Saturday, said that the film star has no complaints about prison arrangements in his cell.
Sanjay Dutt is lodged in an egg-shaped (Anda) cell for reasons of extra security.
“Anda cell or non Anda cell, he is currently comfortable and has no complaints,’’ the lawyer said.
Earlier, there were reports on Friday that Sanjay Dutt’s lawyer has made an oral plea to court that the actor is feeling `suffocated’ inside the Anda cell and wants to be shifted out to another cell on the grounds that he is not a terrorist as he has not been convicted under the TADA.
But on Saturday, his lawyer said, “There are no plans to make any application to have him shifted. Whether or not to shift him is entirely at the discretion of the prison authorities. I cannot comment on that.”
Sanjay Dutt, who surrendered before the special designated court here on Thursday for his conviction in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case and was sent to Arthur Road Central Jail, spent his second night of the 42-month-long jail term.
The judge has allowed him to carry the Gita, the Ramayana and Hanuman Chalisa inside the jail. The religious books were among the some concessions granted by the court on Thursday. He has also been allowed his own mattress, toiletries and mosquito repellent.
