NEW DELHI: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has done a U-turn on its earlier announcement of not fielding its Delhi MLAs in the parliament elections.
The party has been forced to withdraw its candidate from the North Delhi seat – Mahendra Singh – because of criminal cases against him.
Now, Rakhi Birla, the youngest minister in the short-lived Arvind Kejriwal government in Delhi, will be the party’s candidate.
AAP said Mahendra Singh has been dropped as their candidate because he was given “three months in jail last year in a case of fake currency circulation.’’
The party said it had no knowledge of the criminal cases against Mahendra Singh when it announced his name from North Delhi.
