TORONTO: Indian-born Rajani Alexander has been appointed Canada’s new consul general in its consulate general in Chandigarh.
She replaces Scot Slessor, said a statement by Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird in Ottawa on Friday.
A graduate (history honours) from the University of Delhi, Rajani joined the public service in Canada in 1994. She has served in Canadian missions in Chile, Bangladesh and Honduras.
Rajani has also served at the headquarters of the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) as senior adviser in the Gender Equality Division, senior analyst in the Caribbean Program and director of results and accountability in the Geographic Programs Branch.
Rajani, who holds a Ph.D in history and government from the University of Notre Dame, served as a researcher and university instructor in Pacific, Asian and Gender Studies, and independent consultant on and program manager of cooperative education before she joined the Canadian public service in 1994.
She has two daughters – Rahel and Maya.
