NEW YORK: America’s multi-billion adult porn industry, based in the San Fernando Valley of the Los Angeles area, has been shut down after a porn star tested positive for HIV.
The porn star, who has tested positive this month, has been identified only as Cameron Bay by the Free Speech Coalition which is an adult film industry trade group.
The Los Angeles County had passed the Safer Sex in the Adult Film Industry Act – called Measure B – in November last year mandating use of condoms by porn stars, but the porn industry is opposed to it, calling it unconstitutional. A federal court has just rejected the porn industry’s petition against Measure B.
The porn star, who has tested positive for HIV, had tested negative last month as all porn stars are mandated to undergo STD tests every 14 or 28 days.
She reportedly acted without condoms in one porn film in between her HIV tests and might have contracted the virus on the set, Michael Weinstein, who heads the AIDS Healthcare Foundation that backs the condom law, was quoted as saying by Reuters.
But Diane Duke, CEO of the Free Speech Coalition which is an adult film industry trade group, said, “There is no indication of on-set transmission.
“Because of the rigorous APHSS [Adult Production Health and Safety Services] protocols, the situation was accessed quickly and – most importantly – action was taken to ensure the protocols were followed.”
