NEW YORK: After Thanksgiving in the US, comes shopping-spree Black Friday followed by Small Business Saturday meant for mom-and-pop stores.
To promote Small Business Saturday, President Barack Obama and his two daughters, Sasha (15) and Malia (12), went on book buying spree in northwest Washington, snapping up about two titles from a bookstore known as Politics and Prose.
Among the books that Obama and his daughters bought was Jhumpa Lahiri’s `The Lowland.’
Other titles bought by the First Family included `The Ballad of the Sad Cafe: Other stories” by Carson McCullers, `Red Sparrow’ by Jason Matthews, and “The Kite Runner” by Khaled Hosseini.
“It’s a long list. I’ve got books for every age group, from 5 to 52,’’ said the President who was dressed casually.
Before he walked out of the bookstore, Obama chatted with other shoppers with many of them clicking the First Family with their cellphones.
Our Pulitzer Prize winning Bong girl Jhumpa Lahiri would be mighty pleased to know that the President is reading her second novel.
