MUMBAI: Sexy clothing is no-no at this year’s Miss World pageant which is being held in the world’s biggest Muslim nation Indonesia.
Making this announcement, the organizers of the pageant said, “There will be no bikini in this year’s Miss World pageant to respect our traditional customs and values. This is a sensitive issue in Indonesia.’’
The pageant is being held at the Sentul International Convention Center, Sentul and Nusa Dua, on September 28. Miss India Navneet Kaur Dhillon represents India at the pageant.
This is the first time that the bikini show has been called off at the pageant in its history after protests by some Muslim groups on Tuesday.
Instead, there will be a “beach body” show in which beauty queens will appear in one-piece bathing suits.
Beyonce Knowles and The Pussycat Dolls, who are performing at the pageant, will also not wear flashy clothing.
According to Miss World Organization chairwoman Julia Morley, the organizers don’t want to show disrespect to the traditions of the host nation.
