NEW YORK: If you want to earn more money and become rich, then have more and more sex regularly, says a new study.
According to the study, people with a regular sex life earn more than those who don’t have a healthy sex life.
“People need to love and be loved (sexually and non-sexually) by others. In the absence of these elements, many people become susceptible to loneliness, social anxiety, and depression that could affect their working life,’’ CBS quoted study author Nick Drydakis, an economics lecturer at Anglia Ruskin University in Britain, as saying.
The new study is sync with a 2009 Brazilian study which said that a more active sex life leads to higher earnings for people.
Drydakis told the CBS that he studied the link between regular sex life and income-generating capacity of people because of previous studies linking sexual activity with extroversion traits, including being sociable, outgoing and energetic) and good health.
Citing the famous psychologist Maslow’s theory of Need Hierarchy which says that human being must have basic needs like food, water, and sexual activity met first before they can attempt to succeed in other aspects of their life, Drydakis said,“In the absence of these elements, many people become susceptible to loneliness, social anxiety, and depression that could affect their working life.’’
His conclusion is based on his study of data on 7,500 people – aged 26 to 50 – who were asked about their health, sexual activity, employment status and their income.
The study found that people who had sex four or more times a week made 5 per cent more money than those who had sex less than four times a week. Those who didn’t have sex at all made 3.2 percent less than those who had regular sex.
The findings also revealed that people who enjoyed regular sex showed lower rates of diabetes, heart disease and arthritis.
Drydakis clarified that people should not assume that if they start having more sex, they will get a pay raise. But still a good sex life remains a major contributing factor in success, he said.
“Sexual activity is a key aspect of personal health and social welfare that influences individuals across their life span.’’
