NEW DELHI: Miss Universe Olivia Culpo was `caught’ shooting photos to promote a footwear company at the Taj Mahal on Sunday in violation of the Indian Supreme Court guidelines banning shooting of commercials at the monument.
Miss Universe is on a 10-day trip of India as part of her pageant commitments.
The Archeological Survey of India (ASI), which looks after historical monuments in India, says the US-born Miss Universe turned her visit into a photo-shoot for a shoe company and has threatened to seek police action against the company behind the photo-shoot. `
“We are gathering information from the tourism police about those who were managing the visit. After we get the names, an FIR would be lodged against the agency involved in violating norms at the Taj,’’ ASI superintending archaeologist NK Pathak was quoted as saying.
Usually, VIP visitors to the Taj Mahal are escorted by the local tourism police and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). During her one-hour visit to the Taj, Miss Universe first went around the 16th century monument inquiring about it and then came to the marble platform where people pose for their photos. But Olivia Culpo got busy trying on one pair after another with the Taj Mahal in the background as photographers clicked.
Authorities may also haul the cops from the tourism police and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) for not intervening to stop the photo-shoot which violated Supreme Court guidelines.
