MUMBAI: Mamta Kulkarni, the bold Bollywood actress in the 1990s who has not been heard of for years, seems to have become a sanyasin or yogin.
In an interview, the 41-year-old Kulkarni, whose whereabouts are not known, reveals that she has attained enlightenment and narrates her spiritual transformation after being under the arc lights for more than a decade.
So much so that she has reportedly written a book titled Autobiography of An Yogini.
Kulkarni, who featured in films such as Karan Arjun and Baazi, tells Bollywoodjournalist.com,“In these 12/13 years what was I doing, where was I, not even my family knew as this was demand of the spiritual world. When someone does a penance he has to be alone and it has to carried in utmost silence and have to be detached from everything and everyone that can be a obstacle.’’
Kulkarni says, “Some are born for cause of world … some are born as cause for God, I fall for the latter part. So, the call to go to my actual cause of my existence was inevitable.’’
Asked about her plans to make a comeback in Bollywood, she says, “I am laughing, is it possible for ghee to become milk again? Is it possible for Rishi Valmiki to become Vallya again? My real heroes have changed from Shahrukh, Salman, Aamir to first the Father, and Lords of all religions.”
Asked whether allegations of underworld links made her leave Bollywood and that is the reason she doesn’t want to return to films, she says, “Yes and no also. Initially, I did feel not depressed as when you are right it hardly matters but during and when that moment when I became enlightened I forgave all because had they had not have behaved like this it would not compelled me to seek the higher truth… in fact in these 12 years I didn’t even watch or read any films or magazines. But the days after my enlightenment I went to see some and (that) too because of some of my acquaintances but this time I watched them with different perspective.”
Speaking about her reported marriage to drug smuggler Vicky Goswami, Mamta Kulkarni says, “I was never married to no one, neither am I still married to anyone. My penance got over and Vicki was released … I love Vicki but even he knows my first love now is God.’’
