MUMBAI: Before she begins helming her new new reality show called ‘Bachelorette India – Mere Khayalon Ki Mallika’ with 30 contestants on Life OK from Oct 7, Mallika Sherawat has written to the participants not to look at her body but her heart. Here goes the Harayanvi bombshell’s letter to the participants, one of whom will win her heart:
“It seems like another life. Just yesterday, I was simply another girl. I lived a simple life, easily got lost in the crowd. (Even then, I wanted more for my life. I didn’t know how to describe it at the time, but I had a passion that would one day take me far away from small-town life.) But growing up in a patriarchal, restrictive society was never easy. (I didn’t feel like I was solely in control of my own life. Having all of life’s necessities was no substitute for freedom).
I broke away from my shell and moved out to a world that would soon become my home. (Nothing worth having is easy to acquire. I understand this first hand. I struggled as an unknown for years before anyone took notice of me.)
Never did I imagine that I could turn my dreams into reality. Look at me now, I am someone now — someone with a voice and not just a pretty face. From ordinary to extraordinary, I have been all that and more. I have travelled far and wide, and made heads turn with every step I took. I am frank, and the world is witness to my honesty. I may have pinched the society, but I did what I felt was right. (I’m one of the lucky few women who can speak their mind in the face of great public pressure to remain silent.) I have fame, popularity, money, but with passing time, I realised something is missing in my life. In a moment of euphoria, I knew what it was! I realised that at the end of the day, I’m like any other Indian girl. (Why should I have to give up on a great love because I chose to become an actress?)
So, I’ve finally come down to India to find my love story. I’m writing to the lovely bachelors out there. I think your chances are getting bleak. I’ve met the 30 most desirable men, all of whom are willing to move the moon and stars for me. (Some of them don’t have large bank accounts, but that’s not any of my concern. I’m looking for true love.)
My suitors are not only dashing and successful, but also humorous and down to earth. (These men come from all walks of life, from college professors to clerks. I’ve finally realised after so many hard lessons learnt, that the man with the purest intentions is the one for me, no matter what the profession.)
I may not be attracted to men from Bollywood, but you should know that my quest is beyond celluloid heroes. These are real men and believe it or not, this is real love. I have never been rejected by anyone and thanks to The Bachelorette India – Mere Khayalon Ki Mallika, I no longer have to face it. May the best man win this war for love!
To all the people reading this, for once don’t just look at my body, but look at my heart and you will know that there is more to my journey than on-screen kisses. (This is my incredible journey to find love. I invite you to follow each and every turn I take on the road to happiness. You will have your heart taken away just as mine was with each passing week. I feel like the luckiest woman in the world and I think you’ll understand what I mean when you see the show.)’’
