TORONTO: Malaa Treon, who recently released her Punjabi single LABDIYAAN, says there is no age to accomplish a dream.
“I started ten years ago and this project got shelved due to no support from my family,” reveals Treon. “I lost funds on a bad video, earned what I had lost again,’’ says Africa-born Punjabi Treon.
She says she soldiered on and finally brought out her debut single.
“Ten years later… no giving up… a true Punjabi spirit! A one woman show! There is no age for a dream to be accomplished! At the ripe age of 50 years, I took the plunge! ” she says of her single which features Ayush Tandon (Life of Pi) and Avneet Sawhney (DID Li’l Masters).
Labdiyaan is a Punjabi folk fusion number, a song about who Malaa Treon is. The song is all about merry-making, celebration, love and finding love, and is now making its appearance in Canada.
According to the artist and musician, the song has been designed to cater to all moods and age groups.
“The song is a journey from finding Love to have found the love,” says Treon.
Born in Africa, Treon studied in Bangalore, New Delhi and London and pursued her art in Pune. She began Art on Silk, in the process making a name for herself in the art industry where she was applauded by artists, art fraternities and art galleries like Point of View in Mumbai, Kalakriti gallery in Hyderabad and others across India.
In 2004, she was recognized for her inherent talent for singing by her nephew Ashish Manchanda, one of the leading Sound engineers in India and Consultant and head Engineer of Coke Studio, who subsequently also mixed and mastered this song.
“This encouraged me to pursue singing seriously and I trained under Aruna Badodekar, granddaughter of Hirabai Badodekar – a renowned artist of her time who was an expert in khayal, thumri, Marathi Natya Sangeet and bhajan,’’ says the textile designer and artist who began to learn classical music at the age of 40.
She started her writings in 2012 and wrote, composed, sung and rendered the music all by herself.
Labdiyaan has been promoted all over the world on radio, television and digital portals, and is available on Amazon, ITunes and 33 other cyber networks as well as YouTube and Facebook.
With Times Music as her India digital partners, Labdiyaan will also be aired on Saavn radio in the US, the UK, India and Canada.
So what comes next for Treon?
“The journey has just begun and I am still designing it. I was following a dream which turns into reality now and I need the world with me to carve this new path. Six other songs and a remix follow to compile the Album which completes in December 2014,’’ says Treon.
Who says dreams don’t come true? They do.
