TORONTO: Israel was created to allow Jews from all over the world to settle there and Israel still has an open-door police for Jews from anywhere to settle there.
Pakistan was created for the Muslims of south Asia – though Pakistan no more has an open-door policy for Muslims of south Asia.
India has introduced the Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) card for the Indian diaspora.
And now China too is introducing an open-door policy to welcome back overseas Chinese, including those born abroad.
“No matter where the Chinese people are, China will always be their maternal home,’’ Chinese President Xi Jinping was quoted as saying recently.
Towards this end, China plans to issue a `Chinese Card’ to all overseas born Chinese and also build an Overseas Chinese Township between Meizhou City and Songkou.
Millions of Chinese living abroad or born overseas will be invited to the proposed new town to be built in Meizhou district.
China hopes the `Chinese Card’ and `Overseas Chinese Township’ will lure millions of Chinese – including those in South East Asia countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, India, Mauritius, and Vietnam – to emigrate back to China.
