NEW DELHI: Legendary Bengali actress Suchitra Sen died of a heart attack in a Kolkata hospital on Friday.
Known as the Greta Garbo of Bengali cinema and the first Paro of Bollywood, the 82-year-old actress of yesteryears passed away at the super-specialty Belle Vue Clinic.
The veteran of 59 films suffered the heart attack in the morning following deterioration in her condition on Thursday night.
Sen had shown improvement after she was admitted to the hospital on Dec 23 when she suffered respiratory infection.
She is known for her roles in Bollywood blockbusters such as Devdas and Aandhi. In Aandhi (1975), she played the role of a character akin to the then prime minister Indira Gandhi. The film was banned and released only after the defeat of Indira Gandhi in the 1977 elections.
Sen is survived by her daughter and Bollywood actress Moon Moon Sen and granddaughters Riya Sen and Reema Sen.
