MUMBAI: Yerwada Jail authorities are against home-cooked food to be allowed to actor Sanjay Dutt who was shifted there last week from Mumbai’s Arthur Road Jail.
The jail authorities have filed a review petition in the designated TADA court in Mumbai opposing home food for Sanjay Dutt on the grounds that jail manual doesn’t allow such concession to any prison.
“These provisions were removed from the jail manual way back in 2000 for convicts who are fit. And Dutt seems to be fine. In fact, we will be filing similar petitions for other convicts who have availed of such unnecessary facilities,’’ Yerwada Jail Superintendent Yogesh Desai was quoted as saying by Mumbai Mirror.
Jailor Yogesh Desai was quoted as saying that the court will take up the application in due course.
Sanjay Dutt was allowed home-cooked food, a table fan and other facilities by the TADA court on May 16 when he surrendered.
The actor is serving the remaining three and a half years of his sentence in connection with the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts. he had spent 18 months in the same jail in 1993-94 after his arrest.
On Monday, Priya Dutt, Congress MP, visited her brother in the jail and was with him for the stipulated 20 minutes.
