MUMBAI: Yash Chopra’s last film Jab Tak Hai Jaan (JTJH) has beaten Ajay Devgn’s Son of Sardaar (SOS) in box-office collections on the opening day of the two films.
While JTHJ opened in 2,500 screens and reported collections of about Rs 15.23 crore, SOS released in 2,000 screens and reported Rs 10.72 crore in collection on the first day.
The two films opened amid a controversy over Ajay Devgn dragging Yash Raj Films to the Competition Commission of India for monopolistic practices and arm-twisting distributors. However, Devgn’s plea was rejected.
Reports say Jab Tak Hai Jaan opened to a huge response in theatres in NOIDA, West Bengal and Mysore, and Son of Sardaar did extremely well in Punjab, Delhi, UP and other places in north India.
