NEW DELHI: Indian woman wrestler Sakshi Malik, who won the bronze medal at the Rio Olympics, is reportedly set to marry.
According to a report in Anandabazar Patrika, the 23-year-old Haryana wrestler will marry a fellow wrestler whose name has not been revealed.
Sakshi has been quoted as saying that her would-be husband is very supportive of her sporting career.
“He thinks my dreams are his dreams. I will gain a friend after marriage,” Sakshi has been quoted as saying.
“He will help me in my preparations. I believe wrestling after marriage will not be a problem.”
Sakshi and badminton player PV Sindhu were the only two medal winners at the Rio Olympics.
Sakshi’s father works with the Delhi Transport Corporation.
She has been rewarded with Rs 2.5 crore by the Haryana government and Rs 1 crore by the Delhi government for her medal-winning performance at the Rio Olympics.
Sakshi’s family comes from a village near Rohtak.
When she took up wrestling, she used to be teased by her fellow villagers that wrestling would give her `cauliflower ears’ and then no one would marry her.
