NEW YORK: A 62-year-old Indian American, who was arrested in March for sexually molesting a woman passenger on a flight from Houston to Newark in New Jersey, has been jailed for eight months.
Devender Singh, who lives in Baton Rouge, molested the woman who was seated next to him in the window seat. When she fell asleep, Singh kissed her and sexually assaulted her.
A startled woman woke up and pushed Singh away. She complained to the cabin crew about the sex assault by Singh. Police were present at the airport to arrest Singh when the flight landed. Singh was arrested and charged with sexual assault.
Charging Singh, the prosecution had said, “After pushing Singh off of her and telling him to get away, the woman went to the back of the plane and told a flight crew member what had happened, asking that the police be present when the plane landed.’’
Singh got off lightly as he could have been jailed jailed for two years and fined $250,000 under the law.
This is not the first time that an Indian American got arrested for groping a fellow female passenger on a flight in the US. In April 2013, the FBI arrested 39-year-old Saurabh Agarwal at Reagan National Airport in Virginia for molesting a woman passenger by “hugging her body, with his hand inside her bra, fondling her breast ”on an American Airlines flight.
