NEW DELHI: India will soon have another state of Telangana to be carved out Andhra Pradesh. It will be the 29th state of India.
Hyderabad will be the joint capital of the new state and Andhra Pradesh for 10 years.
First, the ruling UPA approved the creation of the new state at its meeting here on Tuesday.
Later, the Congress Working Committee of the Congress Party – which is the main constituent of the UPA- too put its stamp of approval on the creation of Telangana by passing a unanimous resolution.
“The UPA unanimously decided in favour of Telangana,’’ said RLD leader and civil aviation Ajit Singh after the meeting at the residence of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
The Union cabinet is having a special meeting on Wednesday to clear the decks for the new state which will come into existence after the Bill is okayed by Parliament. The whole process will take up to five months.
After 10 years, Andhra Pradesh will its own new capital.
Telangana, which would become the 29th state of India, will have 10 districts – Hyderabad, Adilabad, Khammam, Karimnagar, Mahbubnagar, Medak, Nalgonda, Nizamabad, Rangareddy, and Warangal.
The demand for Telanagan has been simmering for the past 60 years as people from the region complained that they accounted for much of the state resources, but got very little in terms of spending from the state government.
The Centre has rushed additional 1,000 paramilitary personnel to the state to meet any situation.
