TORONTO: India is seeking to deepen cooperation with Canada in the food processing sector.
With New Delhi set to organize its first global food summit “World Food India, 2017” in November, J.P. Meena, Special Secretary in the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (FPI), visited Toronto this week to seek Canada’s participation and visit the SIAL Canada 2017
SIAL stands for Salon International de l’alimentation in French which means the Global Food Marketplace. Held every two years, SIAL brings global agriculture and food processing industries together to discuss cooperation and innovation.
Meena and Indian Consul General Dinesh Bhatia met with officials of Ontario Government and Canadian companies. Accompanied by officials from the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) and Invest India, they met Greg Meredith, Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and Small Business and other senior officials in the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, and discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in food processing sector.
Besides meeting the government officials in the Ministry of Agriculture, Meena also held fruitful interactions with the representatives of various major Canadian companies, as well as with the president of the Canadian Food Exporters Association. Meena and the Consul General also participated in a round-table organised by the Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce (I-CCC) with prominent Canadian companies in the food and food processing sector.
Meena apprised Canadian officials of the “World Food India, 2017”, a mega international food summit, organised by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries in New Delhi from November 3 to 5 this year. The aim of the summit is to showcase the vast investment opportunities available in India for all food processing and food retail players.
The summit would provide a global platform for Canadian companies to showcase, connect and collaborate with potential investors, suppliers and buyers. Canadian officials and business representatives expressed keen interest to enhance bilateral relations and participate in the Delhi Summit.
