TORONTO (NEWS): The New Democratic Party (NDP) has accused Immigration Minister Jason Kenney of playing “a numbers game” after he announced on Tuesday that the backlog of immigration applications has been reduced by 40 percent thanks to measures put in place by the Conservative government in 2008.
The immigration minister is playing with a game of number with his immigration portfolio while Canadian families are still left waiting years to be reunited, said NDP Immigration Critic Jinny Sims in a statement on Wednesday.
“Minister Kenney needs to stop playing a numbers game with hard working Canadian families who only want to be reunited with their families,” said Jinny Sims.
She said, “Deleting over 280,000 files does not address the immigration backlog and there are still Canadian families waiting years and years to be reunited. Being with our family is incredibly important to us. And it seems like this is something that Jason Kenney just doesn’t get.”
While the Conservatives and Minister Kenney are making reckless immigration policies, New Democrats are standing up for Canadian families, said Jinny Sims.
