NEW DELHI, Aug 28: In a shocking case at IIT Roorkee, the body of a senior professor was found on the campus with slit throat on Wednesday.
The 60-year-old victim Ajay Kumar, who taught in the Electrical Computer Science Department, was living alone in his official accommodation on the campus.
Police are clueless whether it is a case of murder or suicide.
Prof Kumar had reportedly attempted suicide two years ago as he was depressed. His wife Madhulika too had committed suicide more than two years, according to a colleague of the victim.
“Till now, it is a mysterious case as circumstantial evidence gathered from the spot was not enough to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to Kumar’s death,’’ Hardwar SSP Rajiv Swaroop was quoted as saying.
Police are speaking to the relatives of the victim to ascertain whether it was a case of suicide. Prof Kumar’s all three daughters live abroad.
