NEW DELHI: IIT Kanpur has reported yet another suicide by a student.
Manjunath, 21, a third-year student of computer science who comes from Karnataka, was found dead in his hostel room. He reportedly consumed poison to end his life.
This is the third such incident at the IIT since December.
The student was said to be depressed and seeking psychiatric help. He had lost his father and sister some time ago and is survived by his mother.
The IIT director has ordered an inquiry into the circumstances that led Manjunath to commit suicide.
But Rakesh Kumar Sachaan, IIT Kanpur registrar, was quoted by media networks as saying that the student had “a troubled background.’’
