A one-mile wide asteroid called 1999 FN53, which is an eighth the size of Mount Everest, will pass terrifyingly close to earth on May 14.
It is currently hurtling around earth at the speed of 30,000 miles per hour – which is 50 times faster than a Jumbo Jet.
This monster asteroid will brush past earth closer than any previous asteroids.
Though it is still millions of miles away from earth, any slight deviation from its orbit will put the asteroid on a collision course with earth, says a report in the British daily Express.
If this asteroid hits earth, it could kill up to 1.5 billion people, according to Bill Napier, professor of astronomy at the University of Buckinghamshire.
The report says this asteroid is ten times bigger than other meteorites which are currently visible on NASA’s Near Earth Object radar.
