BRAMPTON: Community activist and local basketball star Gurpreet Dhillon will be the Ontario NDP candidate in Brampton-Springdale.
He was nominated officially on Monday by a gathering of over 250 people, including Jagmeet Singh, MPP for Bramalea-Gore-Malton.
Said Dhillon after his nomination, “Skyrocketing insurance rates and temporary job agencies are hurting families here; Brampton-Springdale is ready for change.
“With the rising cost of living, parents are struggling to make ends meet — this needs to end — no parent should have to choose between putting food on the table and spending time with their children.’’
Lauding Dhillon, Jagmeet Singh said, “Gurpreet Dhillon is exactly what Brampton-Springdale needs – a refreshing change, a youthful presence and most importantly, someone dedicated to fighting for the residents in Brampton-Springdale.
“For the last decade, Gurpreet has dedicated himself to working with at-risk youth through sports. He understands the value of working with others and he will fight for our home team – Brampton.”
A father of two, Dhillon has served on the Toronto Police South Asian Consultative. He has been instrumental in founding a series of basketball camps and training schools.
