INDORE: Godman Asaram Bapu, who is in jail for allegedly raping a minor girl, has two ashrams at Panched in Ratlam district of Madhya Pradesh. But the villagers know about one ashram only. The other one is built on dune, comprising of luxurious cottages for VIP guests and devotees.
Asaram’s first ashram on Panched main road is spread across 20 acres, constructed around 35 years back. Some of the land was purchased from the farmers; some people allegedly donated the land for the ashram.
Second ashram was developed after purchasing 18 acres of land from a powerful man of the area. But, some area was also grabbed for this ashram.
The second secret ashram is located on a dune and administration is yet to take steps to take back unauthorised land grabbing by Asaram and his men.
Luxurious cottages here boast of all the modern amenities. If you look it from a distance, you will dismiss it as ordinary cottages. The path leading to the cottages are deliberately kept in wild state, making the cottage merge with the surroundings. Villagers or ordinary devotees are not allowed to go anywhere near the cottages.
Earlier, the district authorities had demolished the main gate of controversial godman Asaram Bapu’s ashram in Indore on Saturday.
According to the administration, the demolition was carried out as the entrance gate at Khandwa Road was built on government land and causing a lot of problems in smooth passage of traffic.
