NEW DELHI: The Ahmedabad Police in Gujarat have got a transfer warrant from a court in Gandhinagar to question godman Asaram Bapu, who is currently in Jodhpur Central Jail, in connection with the latest complaint of alleged sexual assault filed against him and his son by two sisters.
The two sisters from the city of Surat, who once worked in Asaram Bapu’s ashrams, have alleged in their complaint that the elder sister was repeatedly sexually assaulted by the godman and the younger by his son Narayan Sai.
In their complaint, the elder sister has accused godman Asaram Bapu of repeated sexual assault between 1997 and 2006 when she was working and living in his ashram on the outskirts of Ahmedabad.
The younger sister has accused the godman’s son Narayan Sai of sexually assaulting her repeatedly at their Surat ashram between 2002 and 2005.
Since godman Asaram Bapu is lodged in Jodhpur Central in Rajasthan in connection with the alleged rape of a 16-year-old student, the Gujarat police needed his transfer warrant to bring him to Ahmedabad for questioning about the complaint by the two sisters.
Joint police commissioner J.K. Bhatt said in Ahmedabad that police have collected evidence about the alleged sex assaults and will question Asaram Bapu once he is brought to Ahmedabad from Jodhpur.
“We want to interrogate him and so we have procured a transfer warrant from a court in Gandhinagar,’’ Bhatt said.
Since the godman’s son Narayan Sai is missing after the complain by the two sisters, six teams of Surat police have launched a hunt to trace him. Police also went to the godman’s Surat ashram on Tuesday.
