AHMEDABAD: Trouble doesn’t seem to abate, at least for now, for 72-year-old godman Asaram Bapu. Ever since he was accused of sexually assaulting a teenager girl at his Jodhpur ashram in August, there has been a steady flow of allegations throwing light on his ‘murky spiritual world’ of lust and duping of devotees. Most of these accusations have come from his disenchanted former devotees.
After the godman was last week accused of yet another rape, along with his absconding son Narayan Sai, by two sisters from Surat, one more former sevak (disciple) of Asaram Bapu has made public his observations of activities at the godman’s ashram in Motera in Ahmedabad
The sevak named Shivnath has revealed that in order to sell his medicines, Asaram Bapu used to make devotees drink a blend of herbal plants.
“A mixture of banana tree root and gond kateera (tragacanth gum), when drunk with milk, renders a person impotent. People don’t want to have sex for days after consuming the mixture. But Asaram used to lie to his devotees that the mixture has medicinal properties. He then used to sell his sex medicines to the troubled devotees, when they used to come back later with their grievances, not knowing that Asaram is one who created it for them in first place,” Shivnath shockingly reveals.
The former ashram worker also confirms what already has been revealed earlier that all the workers at Asaram Bapu’s ashram were made to consume the mixture.
“Asaram wants everything for himself. He didn’t want his male sevaks to develop sexual relations with females in his ashram,’’ says Shivnath, explaining the apparent reason behind Asaram’s actions.
In contrast to what he did to those around him, Asaram always kept the best for himself.
Earlier, an ayurvedic doctor named Amrit Prajapati, who used to work for the godman, threw light on how Asaram used to consume slew of herbal medicines before having sex with with female devotees and ashram sevaks (workers).
“He keeps the purest of herbs for himself. The one he sells to his devotees have chemical mixed in them which could be counter-productive to the stated benefit,’’ Amrit Prajapati, who left Asaram’s company back in 2005, claimed a few days ago.
Revealing the names of medicines the godman consumed for boasting his sexual power, Prajapati recalled preparing Kamini Mardan, Ashwagandha, Shilajit, Makardhwaja Ras, among others, for Asaram Bapu.
Speaking of Asaram’s opium addiction, Prajapati claims to have seen his opium plantations at his Pancher Ashram which is located seventeen kilometres from Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh.
With a number of ashrams across India, godman Asaram Bapu’s business empire is estimated to be worth over Rs 4,000 crore. (Courtesy Bhaskar)
