NEW DELHI: Godman Asaram Bapu has been charged with raping as well as having unnatural sex with a woman (sadhika or disciple) from Surat at his Modasa ashram in Gujarat.
The godman, who was arrested on September 1 for allegedly raping a minor at his Manai ashram near Jodhpur on August 15, was later accused by the Surat woman of sexually exploiting her between 2001 and 2007 at his ashram where she worked and stayed.
The Surat woman’s younger sister accused Asaram Bapu’s son Narayan Sai for sexually exploiting her between 2002 and 2005 at their Surat ashram.
As per the 1,000-page chargesheet filed against Asaram Bapu, the godman sexually exploited the elder sister between 2001 adn 2007 at his Modasa ashram.
Asaram Bapu not only raped her but also had oral sex with her as well as six other women disciples in his ashram.
“In 2005, Asaram had called the victim and six other girls to Modasa ashram where he performed oral sex with the victim and the other girls,’’ says the chargesheet.
Apart from Asaram Bapu, his wife Laxmi, daughter Bharti and four associated have been have been charged under Sections 342 (wrongful confinement), 376(2) (f) (rape of minor girl), 376 D (rape), 354-A (outraging the modesty of a woman), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 109 (abetment to an offence) of the Indian Penal Code.
If found guilty, Asaram and the co-accused could be sentenced from 10 years to life term.
