JODHPUR: The Jodhpur police in Rajatshan believes Asaram Bapu’s aide Shiva allegedly possesses a CD which contains alleged nefarious activities of the self-styled godman.
The police assumption is based on Shiva’s startling revelation in which he had told police about Asaram’s activities during night time.
Known as “dhyan ki kutiya,” Asaram Bapu is alleged to have made CD clippings of his female followers in the secluded hut. He would allegedly use these CD clippings to blackmail his followers.
Shiva’s startling claims gained further weight when verified by another man Amrut Prajapati, who worked as a technical officer of the Ayurvedic division at Motera ashram for 12 long years.
“One day, I was allowed to see him (Asaram) inside his private room, as he was severely ill. Since the guards knew me well, I went straight to his room and found Asaram in a compromising position with a 25-year-old girl, who used to stay in the ashram. This was the turning point for me,” said Prajapati.
During the interrogation, the name of superintendent of Asaram’s Chindwara ashram, Shilpy, surfaced. According to police, Shilpy had introduced the 16-year old girl to Asaram. After the report of sexual assault surfaced, Shilpi turned absconder.
She has gone missing and missed her August 29 deadline to appear before police.
The police believe Shilpi’s arrest may reveal more startling facts about Asaram and his dirty trade.
The police are searching for more details and possible links by which they could establish the guilt of Asaram. “We’re chasing leads wherever Shiva’s name pops up and tracking down any other people who could be involved in this case,” Jodhpur DCP Ajaypal Lamba said.
Earlier on Wednesday, a Jodhpur court rejected the bail plea of Asaram.
Asaram has been booked under sections 376, 342, 506 and 509 of the IPC, section 8 of the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) and sections 23 and 26 of the Juvenile Justice Act in connection with the alleged assault. (Courtesy Daily Bhaskar)
