NEW DELHI: Actress Kirron Kher, 58, who has been fielded by the BJP from Chandigarh, was greeted with black flags and eggs when she landed in the city on Tuesday to start her poll campaign.
The protest was staged by supporters of Chandigarh BJP president Sanjay Tandon, former MP Satya Pal Jain and former Union Minister Harmohan Dhawan who are miffed at the BJP leadership for parachuting Kher as its candidate against the wishes of local leaders.
The protesters shouted `Kirron Kher go back’ and threw eggs at her. Her husband Anupam Kher, who accompanied her, was almost hit by a egg.
But Kirron said she was not an outsider. “I am the daughter of Chandigarh. It is my hometown,’’ she said.
Former Miss India Gul Panag, 35, is also in the fray from Chandigarh as the Aam Aadmi Party candidate.
Springing to his wife’s support, Anupam Kher added his wife is “a Punjabi kudi’’ and she will be a tough candidate.
