LONDON: Separation from his wife of three years is said to be the reason behind England cricketer Monty Panesar’s recent behaviour in which he urinated on nightclub bouncers after going on a drinking spree.
Panesar, 31, who has played 48 Test matches for England, was thrown out of Brighton’s Shooshh nightclub earlier this month when some women complained that he was bothering them. After this, he reportedly went on to the promenade above the club and urinated on the bouncers below.
He was chased away to a nearby restaurant by the bouncers before police came and took him away as Monty shouted `Help! Help!’.
He was fined £90 for his drunkenness. Panesar later issued an apology for his behaviour.
Now it has come out that Monty Panesar – whose full name is Mudhsuden Singh Panesar – has taken to drinking heavily because of his heartache over his bitter divorce from his wife Gursharan Rattan.
“Monty was devastated by the breakdown of his marriage and is still coming to terms with his recent divorce. His personal struggles have been a direct result of that. He did everything he could to make it work,’’ Sunday Mirror quoted a source close to the spinner as saying.
“But ultimately he felt there were some insurmountable family issues and this became an increasingly difficult factor within the marriage. He is still sad that they couldn’t make it work.’’
Panesar, who lives in Hove, married Gursharan three years. The couple moved to Hove when the spinner signed a three-year contract with Sussex.
But their marriage soon unravelled. In 2011, the cricketer was arrested by police after his heated row with his wife in a pub car park. He was released without charges.
