MUMBAI: Mumbai-born controversial conservative political commentator Dinesh D’Souza’s film on Hillary Clinton has become the top-grossing documentary at the US box-office in 2016.
The documentary titled Hillary’s America: The Secret History of the Democratic Party, which released coinciding with the conventions of the Republican and Democratic Parties, has collected $5.2 million since it release on July 15, according to Hollywood Reporter.
The 100-minute documentary about Hillary, who has just been nominated as the Democratic presidential candidate, cats her and her husband Bill Clinton in rather unflattering light, depicting them as `depraved crooks.’ The documentary links the Democratic Party to slavery and the Ku Klux Klan.
It has become the 10th all-time hit documentary in the US so far.
In 2012, D’Souza had also released a similar documentary about President Barack Obama titled Obama’s America. The documentary collected $33.4 million at the box-office to become as the second biggest grosser of all time in the US. Only Michael Moore’s 2004 documentary Fahrenheit 9/11 has collected money – $119.2 million – at the box-office than D’Souza Obama.
