MUMBAI: Aamir Khan starrer Dhoom 3 has surpassed Shahrukh starrer Chennai Expressed in box-office collection in India.
Still going very strong in its second week, the film collected 19.50 crore in the domestic box office on Sunday and an estimated Rs 6.50 crore on Monday. This takes the overall collection of the film at the domestic box office to Rs 233.50 crore.
Thus Dhoom 3 has surpassed the record of Shahrukh starrer Chennai Express which collected Rs 226.70 crore in India’s domestic market. Now it only has to beat Hrithik Roshan starrer Krrish 3 which has collected Rs 244.92 crore at the domestic box-office. But Dhoom 3 is set to break all record and start a new Rs 300-crore club in Bollywood and become the biggest blockbuster in Bollywood history.
But in the overseas markets, Dhoom 3 has already become the biggest Bollywood blockbuster.
Tweeted market analyst Taran Adarsh, “Dhoom 3 Overseas total *after Weekend 2* is approx $ 20.860 million [Rs 128.99 crores]. ALL TIME BLOCKBUSTER.”
Dhoom 3 is, in fact, beating all records created by Chennai Express.
The film opened with a bang, collecting Rs 36 crore on its first day, beating Chennai Express which collected Rs 33.12 crore on its first day.
Dhoom 3 also became the fastest film in Bollywood history to reach the Rs 100-crore club in just three days.
