MUMBAI: There is no stoping Chennai Express.
The blockbuster has crossed the Rs 300-crore mark worldwide within 10 days of its release.
Only three other films – Three Idiots, Ek Tha Tiger and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani – have grossed over Rs 300 crore worldwide.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh said in a tweet, “#ChennaiExpress is almost $ 3.9 million (Rs 24.71 cr) in UAE-GCC as of yesterday. Becomes the HIGHEST grosser there. Will cross $ 4 million.’’
About Chennai Express’ box office collection in India, he said in another tweet, “#ChennaiExpress Week 1: 156.70 cr. Week 2: 43.85 cr. Week 3 Fri 2.12 cr, Sat 3.61 cr. Grand total: Rs 206.28 cr nett. ATBB. India biz only.”
The blockbuster has surpassed Aamir Khan’s 3 Idiots at the box office by collecting Rs 203 crore in India.
Chennai Express and 3 Idiots are the only two Bollywood movies to cross the Rs 200-crore mark.
Rohit Shetty directed Chennai Express, which was made on a budget of 75 crore, recovered its money in the first days itself.
The film has also created Bollywood history by becoming the highest earner on Day 1, Day 2, and Day 3 of its release. It made Bollywood history by making Rs 100 crore in the shortest time of three days.
