MUMBAI: The Shahrukh Khan starrer Chennai Express has become the highest grosser of all times in Bollywood history.
The blockbuster has surpassed Aamir Khan’s 3 Idiots at the box office by collecting Rs 203 crore so far.
In a tweet, trade analyst Taran Adarsh said, “”Chennai Express creates HISTORY. Week 1: 156.70 cr.Week 2: 43.85 cr. Week 3 – Fri: 2.12 cr. grand total: Rs. 202.67 cr nett. India biz only. “Records are meant to be shattered and #ChennaiExpress does just that. Becomes the BIGGEST grosser of Hindi cinema.’’
Chennai Express and 3 Idiots are the only two Bollywood movies to cross the Rs 200-crore mark.
Rohit Shetty directed Chennai Express, which was made on a budget of 75 crore, recovered its money in the first days itself.
The film has also created Bollywood history by becoming the highest earner on Day 1, Day 2, and Day 3 of its release. It made Bollywood history by making Rs 100 crore in the shortest time of three days.
