VANCOUVER: The Supreme Court of Canada on Friday paved the way for extradition to India of the mother and uncle of Jassi Sidhu for plotting her murder in Punjab in June 2000 for marrying a low-caste rickshaw driver.
In a 9-0 judgment, the apex court overruled a lower court order that had stopped the deportation of the two accused from Maple Ridge near here.

MISSISSAUGA: As a mortgage broker, one gets frequently asked how the rising loonie (Canadian dollar) that shot up to 80 cents vis-a-vis the US dollar will affect the real estate market in Toronto.
Well, the 10 percent rise in the loonie since May technically means that the economy is robust and that some of that positivity should rub off on real estate and send prices rising if one was only looking at locals buying for personal use.
TORONTO: The number of Indian students seeking admission to Canadian institutions is increasing very rapidly.
The University of Toronto alone has reported a 57 percent jump in applications for admission from students from India, says a report by the BBC.
Overall, Canada’s premier university has reported a 20 percent jump in foreign students seeking admission.
