NEW YORK: A California school teacher has been charged with offering sex as a `prize’ to one of her underage students for doing well in a baseball game, and indulging in sexual acts with four other minor students of her school.
Summer Hansen, 31, who is a special education teacher at Centennial High School in Corona in Riverside County in southern California, was arrested in June.
On Tuesday, Ms Hansen, who is married, was charged with six counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor student, seven counts of oral sex with another minor and three counts of texting lewd messages.
She could be jailed for 13 years if convicted.
According to the court affidavit, Ms Hansen allegedly indulged in inappropriate sexual acts with the boys in her classroom, in a school utility room, in her parked vehicle and at the home of one of the boys.
All her sexual encounters with the minor boys happened between May 2012 and May 2013, says the affidavit by Riverside County District Attorney’s Office.
According to the affidavit, her first sexual encounter took place with a student who had done well in a baseball game.
Ms Hansen asked the student what he wanted as a “prize’’ for doing well in the game. She and the student first exchanged some suggestive message and then she told the boy that she wanted to have sex with him. They didn’t have sex that day though.
Later she sent her naked photos to the student, and had sex with him in April or May this year during a Special Saturday school session. Special Saturday school sessions are held for students who have been absent or who are being disciplined.
Ms Hansen was taking the Special Saturday school session that day. When all the other students had left by 12.30 PM that day, Hansen and the boy were left alone in the school, and she had sex with him. Her sexual encounter with the student is detailed in the affidavit.
The student, who was under 17 at the time of the sexual act, disclosed to detectives that two other students at the school also had sex with Ms Hansen on campus. When questioned, the two students confirmed having had sex with Ms Hansen.
Detectives sought a warrant against Ms Hansen as they wanted to search her house, gather DNA samples and take photos of tattoos on her body, including a butterfly on her right buttocks-hip area, according to Press-Enterprise.
During the search warrant on June 20, they seized her iPhone, computer, camera, underwear and the Dodgers (baseball team based in Los Angeles) shirt she was wearing during sex with the boy in Saturday classroom.
